I have learned in my life that words are very powerful. Nothing conveys an idea better than the right words. (Well, maybe a picture, but that’s a thought for another day.) English is a funny language though, with many words that have several different meanings. (By the way, those are called homonyms. I know because I looked it up. Ha!) When I lived in Brazil, I was determined to learn Portuguese, or “Brazilian” as the locals call it. It’s a beautiful language with very few homonyms. While that makes learning the language easier because it lessens the confusion, it is also harder because there are SO many more words to learn!
Then there are those words that are universal, that can be used in any situation. ‘Stuff’ is one such word. It can literally mean anything. And that is what makes it such a fun word. By the way, the slang term for “stuff” in Brazil is “train”. Why? I have no idea but it works for them.
I digress.
Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons summed up the universality of the word best by saying, “So…do you like stuff?” That one phrase opens the door to countless options! And the best part is the answer is always ‘YES!’ Marvelous!
We have quoted little Ralphie often in our marriage and we thought it completely summed up our blog. We are interested in stuff. Random stuff, all kinds of stuff. Limitless stuff. That being said, we seem to go in waves. We may skim the surface on some stuff and go deep on other stuff. But then, it’s all stuff, right?
